If you’re a serious blogger then chances are that you’ve at least thought about how to take your site to the next level at one point or another. Whether that means bringing in big ad dollars or simply having a large and engaged fan base, there are some tips and tricks that we think you should know so that you can reach your blogging goals. So without further ado, here are our five tips to become a successful blogger.
These easiest way to create great content is to write about topics that are interesting to you, and to do it from your perspective. It’s easy to want to copy the formula of other successful bloggers, but if you do that, you don’t bring any value to your readers and it will be hard to stay motivated and inspired to write more posts in the future. Talk about the things that interest you, share your opinions, and be yourself. There’s only one of you, so why would you want to be anybody else? The easiest way to separate your blog from the 15 million-plus other blogs on the Internet is to be who you are and write how you write. If you do that, people will be interested in what you have to say and you will be able to build a fan base and monetize that traffic.
One of the best ways to maintain high levels of traffic and user engagement is to post content regularly. You have to give readers an expectation of your blog, and by posting randomly, they will never know when there’s something new on your site. Come up with a content calendar, share it with your readers, and do you best to stick to it. Whether you post twice a day like us here at The Mail, or once a month, let your readers know when they can expect to find something new on your site.
While creating an editorial calendar and sticking to it is a large part of blogging success, that doesn’t mean that you should post content just for the sake of posting content. Make sure that every time you share something on your blog that it is as good as it can be. Readers want to know that you are informed on the topics that you are talking about, and they want to be able to read it without fighting their way through spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. Take your time to perfect each post that you share and make sure that your content is providing some sort of value, be it educational, entertaining, or the like.
Try to include links back to previous posts or other pages on your site whenever possible. Not only is this great for SEO purposes, but it will also encourage your readers to spend more time on your site. Make sure that you don’t go link crazy though, as this might cause search engines to view your post as spam, which is the opposite of what you’re going for. Link to your content that is relevant, when it’s relevant and you should see some benefits.
It’s great to spend a lot of time and energy building your own site, but if you want it to be seen by people outside of your network it’s crucial that you interact with other blogs. This could mean commenting on other relevant sites, guest blogging, accepting guest posts, or promoting other people’s work. By doing this you will not only strengthen relationships with other like-minded bloggers, but you will also further the reach of your posts and generate interest amongst unfamiliar readers. Try to find some blogs in your niche that you could trade posts with—the more you are able to work with similar blogs and bloggers, the more growth you will see.
Blogging can be a lot of fun, but it can also be time consuming and sometimes just flat out frustrating. If you want to try and grow your readership or monetize your site, try using these five tips and see how you are able to increase the success of your blog. If you’ve got any questions, comments, or tips of your own, make sure to leave them in the comments below—we’d love to hear what you have to say!
