Over the weekend my outlook broke down and stopped working, and I had to fix my mail. I put together this post to help you solve the same problems I had. While I was doing that, I put together some resources and advice.

Here are my tips for when the mail server is not responding:

How to solve “Outlook not responding” cases:

Outlook

“Outlook not responding” — Common reasons and solution

First of all, before looking for a complicated solution, try to optimize your Outlook mailbox using an optimization add-in such as Weight Diet for Outlook. Most of the time, Outlook stops responding due to a very large mailbox file that it’s causing Outlook to require more resources than the computer can offer. Weight Diet for Outlook can restore your Outlook speed and stability by decreasing & compacting your mailbox file, making Outlook to require less resources.

iPhone

Your iPhone email account stopped working suddenly. You get the message “Cannot get Mail.” Most likely there was a temporary issue on the server. If that’s the case, it should be resolved by now as these temporary issues are not usually long lived. Are you still having this issue?

Try changing your email server names.
