Online retailer Newegg lots a patent case to ‘Patent Troll’ TQP Development. TQP Development is a company that was setup just to buy patents and toll companies.
TQP has previously wielded the patent, which it acquired in 2006, to extract more than $40 million in settlements from Microsoft, Amazon, and scores of other companies. Newegg says it will appeal the verdict, which followed several cryptography experts’ testimony on its behalf.
The patent relates to Secure Socket Layer – the encryption system most commonly used on the web. If you are running a site using Secure Socket Layer then this is something you should look into. The bigger you are the more of a target you are.
